Cole, Bennett Named McAlisters Players of the Week in Week 2
The BNA Bank Cotton States Baseball League Players of the Week for the second week of the season have been named. The McAlister’s Deli Player of the Week is Ladarrius Cole, an outfielder with the Tupelo Thunder. Cole, a JUCO All-American from Itawamba Community College who prepped at Nettleton High School, hit .546 on the week going 6 for 11 with 3 doubles and a home run in helping the Thunder to a 3-0 week. Cole lifted his season average to .409 with the stellar week and leads the league in RBI with 6, doubles (4) and total bases (16).
The McAlister’s Deli Pitcher of the Week is Chris Bennett, also with the Thunder. Bennett picked up a complete game victory last Tuesday in the Thunder's 8-1 victory over Golden Triangle. Bennett, a junior at Belhaven who played his high school ball with Tupelo, notched 9 K's in 7 innings of 2-hit work. He allowed 1 earned run in the contest. Bennett leads the league in strikeouts with 19, is fourth in ERA at 1.38, and is second in batting-average-against at .077.
Each player's achievement will be acknowledged at their team’s next game.
