Jet Butler Becomes First Cotton States MLB Draft Pick

Mississippi State University’s Jet Butler became the first BNA Bank Cotton States League MLB draft pick when he was selected in the 26^th round yesterday by the New York Mets.

Butler, a shortstop from Pensacola, Florida, played for Coach Chris Basil and the Tallahatchie Rascals in the inaugural 2009 CSBL season.

Delta State All-American Dillard To Assist Rascals in 2010

Delta State All-American Andy Dillard will join the Tallahatchie Rascals as an assistant coach in 2010, the BNA Bank Cotton States North Division announced today. The Saltillo native, who coached in the inaugural Mississippi Select High School Fall League in 2009, is a former independent league third baseman who won NCAA Division II All-American honors in 2002 for Coach Mike Kinnison's Delta State Statesmen. Dillard prepped at Saltillo High School and continued his baseball career at Itawamba Community College before joining the Statesmen.

Scott, Maxwell Named McAlister's Pitcher, Player of the Week

The first BNA Bank Cotton States Baseball League Players of the Week have been named. The McAlister’s Deli Player of the Week is Colby Maxwell, an infielder with the Tallahatchie Rascals. Maxwell, a Lipscomb University signee from Collierville, TN, hit .455 on the week, pacing the Tallahatchie Rascals in their 4-0 start.

Rascals' McWhorter Honored as SWAC Top Newcomer

Jackson State's M.J. McWhorter, set to play this summer for the BNA/CSBL Tallahatchie Rascals, was named the Southwest Athletic Conference Top Newcomer for 2009. The former East Union HS and Northeast MS CC star blistered the SWAC circuit for JSU this season, batting .362 with 48 RBI.
